Julianna Luisa Margulies was born on June 8, 1966 in Spring Valley, New York to Jewish parents, and is the youngest of three daughters. She grew up living in New York, France and England, and was later educated at Sarah Lawrence College, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She had also participated in stage productions in college, and as soon as graduating, moved on to study with James Price at the Acting Studio in New York. Her first appearance on the big screen was in a Steven Seagal movie entitled Out for Justice, where she played a prostitute. In 1994, she was cast as Nurse Carol Hathaway opposite George Clooney on the hit television series
ER . She played this role for six years, receiving very positive response from the viewers and nominations for every year of her run. She even turned down a $27 million offer to stay on the popular series, and since she left the show, she became a regular on stage and screen, having appeared on movies like Evelyn, Ghost Ship and Beautiful Ohio. Her latest project is filling the lead role on FOX new television series, Canterbury's Law.
Elizabeth Canterbury is played by Julianna Margulies on the television series Canterbury's Law. Elizabeth is a fierce attorney who's making her way to the top, handling cases out of the ordinary, even those which greatly affect her personal life. She is terribly haunted by the disappearance of her son, thus moving away from her former residence with her husband, Matthew. As she battles it out on the courtroom, she also battles the demons within her, finding a way to move on and accept that she was also a victim of a grave injustice.
