This episode of
Cane opens with Frank gambling at some kind of dice game. He's not being very lucky this day and he's not a very good loser. When he accuses his opponent of cheating, a knife is pulled on him and he's thrown out. When he leaves, he sees a bookie by his car waiting for him. The bookie takes his car and car keys and tells him that he'd better pay up.
Meanwhile Henry is poolside at this hotel setting up and planning a pool party that Duque is a big sponsor of. And Alex is at a meeting concerning distribution problems at Duque Rum. It is suggested to him that their trucking company, Di Silvia Trucking, is stealing from them.
Ellis shows up at Franks boat and convinces him that she didn't know anything about her father's involvement in Lucia's kidnapping and murder and that she confronted Joe about it. They decide not to keep their relationship secret anymore.
Alex is playing dominoes with Ramon, who helped him with Henry's problem a few weeks ago. Alex presents Ramon with a business opportunity. He wants Ramon's help in preventing losses from the Di Silvia trucks in return for money, off the books of course. He tells Ramon that he will be his unofficial Loss Prevention Manager.
Rebecca tells Jaime that her dad is coming down and wants to meet him. She hasn't seen him in years and is afraid he's coming because he's found out that Jaime's family is rich.
Henry goes to see Pancho at the distillery ostensibly wanting to be more involved. In actuality, he's there to flirt with Terry and to invite her to the party. She resists his charms and says that she may be there.
The FBI goes to Joe Samuels about the Rosewood Investment Partners problem. He tells them that he's semi-retired and throws Ellis to the wolves. He tells the FBI agent to question her about that problem.
At the pool party, Terry does show up. But she's brought a date, a really great guy. Henry is not happy and spends most of the party brooding over it.
Ellis and Isabel are meeting about their fundraising committee. She tells Isabel that she's seeing Frank. Isabel seems sincerely happy for them and wants the two couples to have dinner together. Ellis is skeptical, but Isobel tells her to leave Alex to her.
Frank tells Alex that he talked to Ellis about the whole Lucia incident and that he believes she didn't know anything about it. He tells him that they are dating again and Alex doesn't look happy. When asked, Alex tells Frank that he can't tell him who to date. When Frank accuses Alex of not giving Ellis a chance, Alex tells him that although she may not have known about Lucia, there's also that problem with the FBI investigation.
Nighttime at Di Silvia trucking finds some of the Di Silvia employees removing cases of Duque rum from the trucks. Some of Ramon's men show up and 'convince' them to return all the rum to the truck ... and then they steal the whiskey.
The next day, Ramon shows up at Duque and Alex doesn't look thrilled. He tells Alex about what happened the night before and proposes that he and his guys take over the trucking for Duque. Alex tells him no. When Ramon accuses him of not wanting to get too close to him, Alex tells him that it's just business and that he prefers to deal with a professional trucking company. Ramon seems to take the rejection well and then tells Alex about Frank owing half a million dollars to a mafia backed bookie.
Alex gets copies of Franks expense accounts for the past six months and then goes to see him. He confronts him about his gambling losses and also about the $97,000 in miscellaneous expenses that Frank has claimed. He gives him a piece of paper with the addresses of various Gambler's Anonymous meeting. Frank denies everything and tries to turn it back on Alex. Alex tells Frank that that may be why Papi (Pancho) picked someone off the street instead of his own son to run the company. That totally infuriates Frank and he punches Alex good in the jaw.
Alex goes to see Ramon. He wants Ramon to buy off Frank's debt and in return, Ramon's guys will become Duque truckers. He doesn't want to just pay off Frank's debt because he says that in six months, he'll be right back where he is now.
At home, Isabel is talking up Ellis to Alex. She tells him that she's made a reservation for the four of them to have dinner. Alex is not happy about it, but goes along for Isabel's sake.
The dinner is very uncomfortable. Ellis decides to take the bull by it's horn and tells Alex that she's hoping that she and Frank can bridge the gap between the families. An FBI agent shows up at the table and tells Ellis that she needs to go with him. Frank follows.
The next night Rebecca's dad joins the Duque's for dinner. She's not looking too happy. Her dad keeps making comments about the Duque's having money and how immigrants live the American dream while he's not been able to. Jaime gets upset and asks him why he's never gotten a job to support his family. He's being reprimanded in Spanish by his parents and Pancho about being rude to their guest. Rebecca leaves the table in tears.
At the distillery, Henry asks Terry why she's being so hard on him and she tells him that he doesn't take anything seriously. She blows him off again.
After another reprimand from Pancho, Jaime follows Rebecca and they argue. She defends her dad and tells Jaime that while he's not arrogant about his money, he totally takes it for granted.
At his boat, Frank's bookie tells him that Ramon has taken over his debt and that he can't take any of is action anymore. When Frank asks who Ramon is, the bookie tells him to ask his brother. He also gives Frank the number of someone who can take his bets for him.
Ellis confronts Joe about throwing her to the wolves. She says that he knows that she didn't have anything to do with the land deals. He tells her that she has to leave and that they can't talk anymore without their lawyers present.
At Duque, Frank sees a new trucking company loading the rum. He asks Alex about it and has connected the company to Ramon and to his debt. He tells Alex to stay out of his business and Alex tells him that his personal business is his but that in future he must clear all company expenses through Alex.
Rebecca's dad goes to see her at her job. He apologizes for embarrassing her and tells her that he will probably not be at the wedding. He gives her some money as a 'safety net' just in case Jaime changes his mind and dumps her. She's touched when she realizes that he got the money from pawning her grandfather's watch that he never takes off.
Frank calls the new bookie and bets $30,000 on the Dolphin game. At the distillery, Henry asks Pancho for a tip on how to land Terry. Pancho tells him the story about how he got Amalia to notice him and then advises Henry to pay attention to the little details.
This episode of Cane ends with Ellis sitting alone in her house playing the piano. Alex pays her a visit. He tells her that she's trying to worm her way into his family and to stay away from Isabel. Whoa ... Ellis makes a comment that leads me to believe that there used to be a little something between her and Alex. He then tells her that that was the past and the past is over.
Next time on
Cane ... Alex has to deal with more problems among them the trucking company being run by Cuban mobsters.
