After the recaps, this week's episode of
Cane begins at a Duque family dinner. Henry explains his injuries by telling the family that he was in a car accident. He tells the family that the New Duque Rum Girl is going to be named at the club and that Alicia Keys will be performing.
During dinner, the family airs its' disagreements on Alex's handling of the ethanol situation. Pancho takes him aside to tell him of his dismay and to tell him that he needs to drop the ethanol thing and concentrate on rum. He tells Alex not to make him spend his last days wondering if he made a mistake putting Alex in charge ... ouch.
Instead of attending a marketing meeting at Duque, Alex, disregarding Pancho's wishes, meets with some Cuban exiles to buy up a bunch of land in Cuba for sugar. He needs to buy the land to continue with the ethanol deal. Over the discussions, a camera shutter is heard. Frank calls him wondering where he is and Alex blows him off.
Bronson, the Samuels' PI, is sitting in a diner when Alex busts him. Alex tells him that it's not too late to change sides, but Bronson tells him that his clients wouldn't have faith in him if he did that. Alex tells him that he can follow him all he wants, but he won't find anything. Bronson tells Alex of Frank's gambling debts and of Henry's partners dealing drugs out of the club.
Two hours late, Alex finally shows up at the meeting and ruffles Franks feathers by telling them that they can begin the meeting. Alone in the hallway, the brothers face off and Alex pulls the CEO card.
Later, Alex meets with his lawyer about foreign companies buying up Cuban land. He tells his lawyer that he's made deals with the exiles to purchase the land from them once the government changes hands. It's currently illegal for US companies to do business with the Cuban government, and his lawyer recommends that he set up dummy foreign companies to get the Cuban titles to this land.
At Duque, Amalia runs into Frank and tells him how happy she is that Pancho is no longer running the company. She tells him how much fun he's been having doing the master blend taste thing with Terry. She commiserates with him on his being disgruntled that he's not having the opportunity to run the company.
Katie is at her boyfriend, Nick's, house. She's bored and starts going through his DVDs. Uh oh ... she finds the DVDs that he's made of them making love.
Alex is doing some internet research on one of the foreign companies that owns Cuban land. He comes up with the name Rosewood Investment Partners and an address in Canada. So off he goes to Canada to find out about it. Isabel calls him despondent while he's on his way to the airport. He offers to turn around and come home, but she tells him not to.
In the club, Ashton Shane is named the new Duque Rum girl. Pancho leads Terry around the club. Alicia Keys is talking to Henry and he offers to have Duque Rum as one of the sponsors of her tour. She politely declines because she thinks Duque Rum patrons are older. Pancho approaches and Henry introduces her to Pancho and Pancho introduces them both to Terry.
Alicia Keys performs her hit song “No One” and I know I'll have that song in my head for the rest of the night. I'm still mad that will.i.am didn't perform last week. Anyway, Henry catches Katie in the club drinking. When he comes to reprimand her and remove her, she tells him about Nick and the dvd. After promising not to tell Alex, Henry asks for Nick's address.
Joe Samuels tells Bronson to go after Alex's weak spot ... his family. Bronson finds Isabel in church, sits behind her, and 'prays' aloud for Alex's salvation because he's a killer.
In Canada, meanwhile, Alex has found the address of this Rosewood place and finds it's a house. When he rings the doorbell, he finds this woman. He pretends to be an employee of the Cuban government and gains entry by offering her a grant. When he explains that the government is offering this grant to all the major landowners, she tells him that she doesn't own any land. He gets her drunk, and finds a stamp for Samuels Sugar in her kitchen.
Back in Florida, Alex is missing another meeting, this time with Pancho and Frank. Frank tells Pancho why Alex is absent and Pancho is not happy. Frank shows Pancho his marketing proposal, asks his opinion, and is told to run it by Alex. Frank is not happy about this and he and Pancho argue over what Frank feels is Pancho's betrayal of him.
Frank tells Pancho that he worked his tail off put together the land deal with the Samuels that would have made the family over $50 million and Pancho nixed the deal on Alex's say so. Pancho counters by telling Frank the real reason he nixed the deal. He tells Frank all about Joe Samuels being behind Lucia's kidnapping and murder and also why Alex had to take care of Quinones.
Alex is still getting the woman drunk. She tells him that she used to be an employee of Samuels Sugar, but that she now gets disability. She gets double disability, though, because she takes all the mail that comes for Rosewood and sends it to Samuels in Florida.
As Ellis sits in what looks to be a Samuels marketing presentation, Frank bursts in and confronts her with his knowledge of the kidnapping and murder. In her defense, Ellis honestly looks like she didn't know about it. When she later confronts her father, he doesn't deny it.
Pancho and Terry are still enjoying themselves comparing their blends. He has a coughing spell and she discovers his stash of meds.
When Alex finally gets home, Isabel tells him about the man in church and what he said. She tells him that she doesn't believe it and hugs Alex. Alex has such a shook up look on his face. The next morning, Alex and Santo catch up to Bronson. Alex puts a gun to his head and threatens to kill him the next time he even goes near Isabel.
Alex and Pancho meet at the dock. Alex tells Pancho about Samuels owning the land in Cuba and their Canadian shell company. When he tells Pancho of his plan to stop Samuels by also setting up a shell company and working with the exiles and the government, Pancho tells him no. Alex again pulls the CEO card.
Pancho tells him of his worries about Alex and how he regrets ever taking him all those years ago. Pancho tells him that he needs to end this vendetta against the Samuels before it destroys him and his family.
Back at Duque, Frank comes into Alex's office and the brothers talk about the Lucia and Quinones thing. Alex changes the subject and suggests they go over Franks marketing proposal. Frank asks him to just trust him for once and say yes without discussing or looking over the proposal. Alex says yes.
Henry goes over to Nick's home and beats the crap out of him.
As this episode of Cane ends, the Assistant U.S. Attorney is shown into Alex's office, tells him how seriously this government takes the laws against dealing with the Cuban government and asks who they are about to put in jail. Alex turns over a file with all the information he collected on Joe Samuels and his illegal land dealing. And yes, I'm still singing “No One” to myself.
In the next episode of
Cane, Ellis tries to worm her way into the Duque family through Isabel and Frank and the brothers come to blows.
