This week's episode of
Cane begins with brothers Alex (
Jimmy Smits) and Frank (
Nestor Carbonell) discussing the ethanol project. They are being spied upon as we see the scene interspersed with what looks to be a camera recording or something with the green tinge of night vision glasses. Vince Grasso (Jason Beghe) interrupts and once Frank leaves, Vince returns Alex's gun. He tells him that it is clean, but that the blood sample found on the body match the sample taken from the Samuels field where Miguel told them the body would be. Vince tells him that a Detective Hodges would be by to talk to him about the case.
Frank called Ellis and she blew him off. She told him that she was with someone else. Right afterwards, he shows up at her home and they ... well, you know ...
Turns out that Alex was being spied upon. Joe Samuels es watching the whole scene on his television courtesy of his PI, Michael Bronson. Samuels is gloating as he watches Alex sweat over Vince's visit. He tells Bronson that the ethanol vote comes up in three days and that he wants to make sure it doesn't pass. Bronson assures him and makes a phone call.
No musical guest this week, but we are treated to some serious Santana throughout the whole episode, and that's okay with me.
The next morning, Frank leaves Ellis' place. Also the safecam shows Isabel looking at the returned gun in the safe. Apparently, Katie is grounded and she begs for permission to go to her grandmother's house. Isabel tells her to ask her father. Alex is freaking out. He's been trying to get in touch with Santo without success. Finally Santo returns his call, and just then Katie asks if she can go. Distractedly he tells her to go ahead.
Alex demands to know where Santo has been, and it looks like he's been out fishing. Alex tells him to pick him up now. Once they're in the car, he loses it. He makes Santo pull over and he's pacing and ranting and threatening, etc. He tries to make sure that the gun and the shovel won't be found, like the body was. He tells Santo that they have to get their story straight and stick to it.
Vince catches up to Frank and questions him about Alex, Santo and the Quinones murder. He asks why Alex would hire an ex-con to be his driver and tells Frank about Santo's Cuban past and Quinones' threats to the family.
Henry (
Eddie Matos) brings a new girl home to meet the family, a pretty Russian girl named Katerina that doesn't speak much English. At the family dinner, they all tease him about that. They also ask Alex if he's alright as he's not eating and looks really tense. Alex snaps at them and Amalia takes him to task. She tells him to go back out and wipe his feet on the way in. Leave whatever's bothering him outside.
Detective Hodges catches up with Santo. He starts peppering him with questions about when he started driving for Alex, what he was doing July 4th, etc. He's been checking out Santo's car as he talked and asks him why he cleans his trunk with bleach. Santo informs him that he fishes. Hodges is not convinced and calls Vince and tells him to get a warrant.
The family is sitting around looking at the Duque Rum website. The website introduces the five finalist for the Duque girl contest that is currently being run in real life. Alex gets a call telling him to turn on the television. The family sees that Senator Barnes is being arrested for misconduct. Pancho is not happy. He makes a comment about this being the guy they are staking the future on.
Joe Samuels approaches Santo and tries to get him to go to the DA and turn on Alex before Alex turns on him. He makes sure that Santo knows about Alex and Vince's close friendship. Santo looks worried when Samuels leaves.
Jaime's fiance, Rebecca, has covered for Katie. She's told Isabel that Katie is looking at bridesmaid dresses, but instead Katie is with her boyfriend, who I think is the guy that she met last week with Casey Clark in the club. They start out by looking at magazines and end up making out. Later in the episode we see that the boyfriend is taping them having sex.
Joe Samuels calls Alex to gloat over Senator Barnes' misfortune. Apparently the senator was involved with some male hookers or something like that. I'm wondering if this is the result of the phone call that Bronson made earlier.
While in Frank's office, Alex finds out that the police have a search warrant for Santo's house and car and also that Senator Barnes has resigned. The police find a trace of blood in Santo's trunk and he's arrested. Vince calls Alex and tells him about Santo and tells him that he needs to come in, too.
Frank goes to Ellis and tells her that he wants to know everything she knows about Alex' involvement in the Quinones murder. She tells him and shows him pictures of Alex and Santo when Alex was losing his mind earlier. Frank wants to know where this Miguel is.
Alex is in Vince's office and Santo is in Hodges' office. Each man is being interrogated, with their stories trying to be broken. Hodges tries to get Santo to just write his confession that he killed Santo for Alex Vega. Does Santo break? He grabs the legal pad on the desk and begins to write. Santo wrote 'Kiss my a$$' in Spanish on the pad and ticks off the detective. They have no cause to hold either man and are forced to let them go. Hodges tells Vince to find Miguel.
Vince shows up later at Alex' house to watch the football game with him and Frank. He casually tells Alex that he has only one more question. Alex had told him that he was with Santo on July 4th until 3am, but cell phone records show a call from Santo to Alex at 1 something. Frank quickly covers for Alex.
Sometime later, Santo and Alex are out fishing. Alex is still worried about Miguel. Santo tells him not to worry. In Spanish, Santo tells Alex that Miguel was taken care of in Cuba. Alex thanks him and looks relieved.
Next week on
Cane, Henry gets beaten up and Isabel has a problem with her pregnancy.
