After the recap of the Quinonez murder and fallout, this week
Cane starts with Alex (
Jimmy Smits) finding Santo (Oscar Torres) and offering him a job as his driver. Santo asks if he has to wear a suit, but Alex tells him just wear a clean shirt, shave and he must carry a gun.
Then in a gratuitous sex scene in the club, Henry's (
Eddie Matos) sex partner is telling him between acts that it will cost $500,000 to complete the addition he wants. Meanwhile the Samuels private detective informs them that now Miguel is missing.
While driving through the sugarcane fields, Alex sees Frank (
Nestor Carbonell) kissing Ellis. Concerned, he goes to Pancho (
Hector Elizondo) and asks if they shouldn't tell Frank about the Samuels being behind Lucia's death and the threats against the family. Pancho tells him that a good leader knows to keep things close to his vest.
When Santo picks up the Vega family for the next Duque family dinner, there are concerns voiced about him. Katie asks who the scary guy with the knuckle tattoos is. At the Duque's, Pancho is still hiding his illness from Amalia and the family. He is engrossed in something on his computer and hiding that and his meds.
Frank and Alex argue again, this time over a packaged sugar contract that Alex is going to Miami to bid on. It's with Premiere Blend Coffee and currently the Samuels hold it. Frank thinks it's a waste of money.
Henry presents Alex with his request to add the $500K VIP rooftop addition to his club and Alex balks at the expense. The next day, Frank and Henry are at the park hitting baseballs and complaining about Alex. Henry tells Frank about the addition and Frank advises him to get outside financing for his project.
When Frank asks Amalia about the bad blood between the Duques and the Samuels, she tells him that she doesn't hate them, but she just doesn't trust him. She trusts Pancho and he does not like them. She tells Frank that something must have happened because Pancho is the most fair man she knows. Frank then asks Ellis about the feud. He tells her that he just wants to make sure that he's not being played by her.
In a nice tie in to the current NFL promotion, Alex and little Artie go to a Miami Dolphins football game. Alex is recognized at midfield for his contribution to the Miami community for Hispanic Heritage Month. While watching Alex on tv, Ellis is told by her private detective all about Santo; his current position and his past in a prison gang.
As Alex sets off on his trip to Miami, he calls ahead to the head of the company. Joe Samuels just happens to be in the office and the Premiere Blend Coffee head uses Alex's call to get a better deal from the Samuels. Alex arrives for his appointment and sees Joe Samuels leaving. Joe tells him that he's too late to make the deal. Ellis calls Frank and tells him that Joe closed the Premiere Blend Coffee deal before Alex even got there. She suggests he use the information to embarrass Alex in front of Pancho.
At the next family dinner, Henry informs Alex that he got outside financing. When Alex questions Henry about the people financing his venture, Henry gets upset. Alex tells him that he's just being careful and wants to check them out, but Henry refuses. Amalia voices her concern about Pancho's excessive web surfing to the boys. At the dinner table, Frank brings up the Premiere Blend Coffee deal and when Alex says that they'll see what happens, Frank tells the family that he's heard that the Samuels have closed the deal. Instead of being embarrassed, Alex informs him that it was a ploy to make the Samuels think they had competition. He helped Premiere Blend get a better deal and it cost the Samuels big bucks. The real purpose of the meeting was to discuss a new rum blend coffee.
Alex calls Frank away from the rest of the family. He confronts him about sleeping with Ellis and giving them family business information. In turn, Frank asks Alex how would Pancho feel if he were to find out that Alex was involved in a murder. As a parting shot, Alex tells Frank not to believe everything Ellis says.
Jaime proposes to Rebecca and presents her with a beautiful ring. They announce it at the dinner and everyone seems pleased except for Isabel. She walks into the kitchen. Rebecca and Jaime ask Isabel to hold on to the ring and to keep it in the family safe until they can get it fitted and she agrees. When she leaves, Rebecca is upset because she feels that Isabel is not happy about the engagement.
Amalia catches Pancho on the internet again late that night. He tells her that he is studying for citizenship. He said that when he dies, his soul will return to Cuba but that he wants to die as an American.
Cane's closing scenes are of Isabel putting Rebecca's ring into the family safe and finding a gun. She looks really ticked. Then Alex sees Ellis leaving Frank's boat. Cane ends with Alex smoking a cigar in the boathouse staring at Frank on the deck of his boat and Frank staring right back.
Next week looks like it will be heartstring pulling. Pancho will finally tell Amalia and the family about his illness. Don't forget your tissue.
