First "track pack" from Californication's "evolutionary soundtrack" ABKCO Records has released the first of the three 8-song “track packs” for Showtime's new comedy series, Californication.  The first track pack, entitled Temptation: Music from the Showtime Series Californication, is available exclusively through iTunes.

In an effort to provide a soundtrack in a more immediate context than traditional albums, series music supervisors Budd Carr and Nora Felder approached ABKCO Vice President Alisa Coleman, who agreed to the concept with much enthusiasm.  "We wanted to do something new with soundtracks," Carr said in a press release.  "When Alisa cited ABKCO's strong ongoing relationship with iTunes, it seemed like we had the means at hand to provide viewers with an 'evolving soundtrack,'” a term used to refer to just-heard music that is made available to consumers on a scheduled basis.

Coleman expressed her enthusiasm for the unique concept, saying, “The idea for the evolving soundtrack package in conjunction with a popular television program -- Californication -- encourages and facilitates formerly passive viewers to become active consumers while, at the same time, bringing them closer to their favorite show and its unique music soundtrack.”

The first track pack is comprised of used in the first four episodes of the series, including the Rolling Stones' "You Can't Always What You Want," Peeping Tom's "Mojo," The Doors' "L.A. Woman (Remix)," Arco's "Lullaby" and Mindy Smith's "Peace of Mind."  Additionally, the trailer for Californication is included as bonus material.

Two more track packs will be released, each becoming available after every four new episodes of Californication.  When the series concludes its debut season, all three compilations will be available.  Each track pack goes for $7.92, while all three will go for $23.76.

Aside from the track packs, a video podcast that contains behind-the-scenes interviews with producers and the cast of the show is also being offered by Showtime on iTunes.

Californication airs Monday nights at 10:30pm on Showtime.  It has been renewed for another season.
