FOX has set its fiery eyes on Matt Nix, creator of
Burn Notice. The network has come up with an overall deal that allows Nix to continue producing the spy dramedy, which returns for a second season this summer on the USA Network, and at the same time, develop new projects for FOX.
Among the new projects is an action comedy script in the vein of
Burn Notice, the series about an international spy who suddenly gets blacklisted and his efforts to find out who burned him and why. This time, however, the potential pilot will be set in the world of law enforcement.

Nix's script revolves around a cop who gets demoted to the “small property crimes division.” Nevertheless, the cop makes the most out of his situation as he uncovers larger crimes through what initially seems like minor criminal acts.
FOX has evidently learned its lesson after
The Shield creator Shawn Ryan shifted to greener pastures. So with the new agreement, the network is brewing up big plans for the
Burn Notice creator.
"As a studio in our infancy, we were fortunate enough to produce a show like
The Shield, and then unfortunate enough to watch Shawn Ryan go away because we weren't well financed enough," FOX exec vice president David Madden said. "We were determined not to repeat that. We're a bit more grown up now, and determined to keep Matt at the studio."
Burn Notice is Nix's first foray in the television circuit. And despite his lack of experience, he has successfully spearheaded the show and even won a 2008 Edgar Allan Poe Award in the category of Best Television Episode Teleplay. This is what caught Madden's attention.
"Coming from so little background as Matt did, he did such a superlative job overseeing the pilot and as it went to series," Madden said.
