Burn Notice returned last night for the second half of its sophomore season. The season opener saw Michael (
Jeffrey Donovan) alive after the explosion at his apartment. Forced to work for the very people who burned him, Michael now sees the bomber as his chance to get a leg up and ultimately find out who is pulling the strings.
While there's a lot to look forward to this season, series creator and executive producer Matt Nix hints that there's even more to get excited about when
Burn Notice airs its third season. As reported previously, the spy drama has already been renewed by the USA network for yet another run after delivering 2.76 million last season.
“Well, we have planned a lot of it, so we're working on it now. And I think, I don't want to give too much away, but basically I think that season three, we're going to find out a lot more about Michael's past, and not just Michael's past - Sam's past, Fiona's past. For various reasons, they are all going to be engaging with some of the ghosts of their previous careers. And so that's something that we're really excited about, and it's a way of exploring. We've done some of it, but it's not really - it's not something we've done for a season, and so we have Michael engaging with his past, so it's not sort of the perpetual search for the name behind his burn notice. It's a different thing,” Matt Nix told movieweb.com.
The third season of
Burn Notice has received an order for 16 episodes, which are slated to air this summer. Meanwhile, Nix also sheds light on where the series gets its plot inspiration.
“We do a lot of reading and a lot of talking to sources. Every week we bring in sources… just people who we think might be interesting to talk to,” Nix explained. “We focus a lot on taking elements of spy craft from the history of espionage, including the very early history of espionage, to World War II stuff. And we have the advantage of being able to use stuff from all around the world…so we'll read a history of Russian spies or read all about the Mossad and techniques from everywhere.”
Fans can catch a new episode of
Burn Notice every Thursday at 10pm on the USA network.
