Twitter Race Results: The Buffy Movie is Doomed Without Joss
Share This Share this
Yesterday BuddyTV started a Twitter race to see what fans thought of the new Buffy movie. The response was overwhelming. Hundreds of you chose a side, and this argument is rather one-sided. If you want to see the full result visit Twitter Search and type in the two hashtags: #No2Buffy and #Yes2Buffy. I will tell you this: I doubt the turtle will be winning this one.

Fans are outraged that a Buffy movie dare be created without the mastermind Joss Whedon behind it. It's a blatant attempt to capitalize on the current vampire craze. Rather than come up with a new idea, Hollywood wants to potentially ruin a good thing. However, if Joss Whedon had some say then most of you would agree with the movie. As Buffy the Vampire Slayer could live on with the same wit and creativity of the television show. As for the cast, you seem a bit conflicted. Many of you want to keep the same cast members as the show. But, as several of you pointed out, it's been years since the TV show ended and the actors would be too old.

At least, that's what I can gather from your comments. Below are some comments I received. This race never really ends. Well, at least not until a final decision has been made. So feel free to keep the race going!

Twitter comments:

Vnna: The dynamics of a series doesn't rely on plot & concept alone but also casting; without 'em it'll end up like a lampoon
Sarahissublime: No to the new Buffy movie because they are just building off the Twilight fame and turning it all action-y! GARBAGE
Coogar39: Jossless buffy? Noooo. THat's like peanut butter and jam w/o the bread...bad idea
JohnDellaporta: If they went to Whedon. If not, it might as well be another cheap action movie that could easily ignore.
KMXIII: I think a recast of teenBuffy could b possible, but the movie only if Joss is involved
CandyMaize: Sacrilege to do it w/o Whedon. To match success of TV show they need Joss involved to capture right spirit & tone.
Kriziag: Because I think the person who brought the series to live should always have some part in a rebooted version. Always. Regardless of how small a part that person will play in the new version, they should always have input

What BuddyTV users had to say:

Anastasia_Falling: Why it should: Hollywood will make and remake things over and over without the original anything. It makes them money, so why not :) --- Why They Shouldn't: It won't mean as much to the fans. It won't be a continuation of a story that is embedded in our lives. It will be like Turkish Spiderman... a costume that references the much beloved and tries to capitalize on that love.

MikiMehling2: The original Buffy movied sucked - let's face it. But the idea, as we later learned, was quite sound. If Joss wanted to make a Buffy movie with different characters, I'd be okay with that. David and James and all the other vamps have grown too old for their parts. New blood could be interesting, especially with the whole idea that ALL the potentials were called in the finale with Willow's spell. That idea - that I might go see. No Joss? No way! Perhaps if some of the same guys from the Buffy and Angel series were involved, but really... Which brand of Crack are these people on?

slayashelllentfer2: Simple joss created Buffy he was the driving force behind the humor wit and spark that drove the show for 7captivating seasons, yes it was brillant he came up with a silent ep no one else would have thought of and even a musical that made us laugh, even when he showed buffys mums death he did it in such a touching and heart renching way.The cast of the show had chemistry which also grew with the development of the show and worked well with joss these actors are not to old to appeal to a new younger adience. So i say no Joss no original cast than it would never have the heart that the original had and i for one would not bother to watch it i would watch my dvds of the oringinal.

KerryfromIreland: at the start when i heard of this, i was SO excited, but then i heard that Sarah Michelle Gellar wont be in it and now its creator wont be doing it!!!! how can they call the film Buffy, if shes not in it?? its stupid!! as much as im a huge fan of Buffy and as much as i miss it SO much!! it was my favourite tv show growing up, i REALLY dont want this film to happen cuz the series ended with such a high and it was rememberable, but this film will put a dampener on things!! i hope it doesnt happen, but how can we stop it?? we cant, so ill just have to deal with it and im not going to lie, i will probably see it, cuz ill be curious, but ill go into it thinking it will be !$#!# so i wont be disappointed!!

hfwrose: Most important Entertainment question of the year LOL. No one.. NO ONE can do buffy without Joss. Without Joss all the things that made buffy what it is is gone. The intelligence, the humor, the metaphor of the hellmouth.. buffy was far more than a show. No other show has encompassed life and humanity like Buffy did. I rarely take a stand.. I'm more of a laid back and watch the chaos kinda of gal but I would absolutely not watch a sudo-buffy made by anyone. If it's not Whedon it's not buffy.

By the way, if you're not already, come chat with me on Twitter!

Do You Think the Original Buffy TV Cast is too Old?
Yes, it's time to recast.
No, they're ageless.
I don't know, what are my other options?
