Saul (
Ron Rifkin) may be the most low-key and reserved member of the Walker family on
Brothers & Sisters, but it's been fascinating to watch his evolution since the pilot episode. Season 2 of the series found the character grappling with the homosexuality he had been trying to deny for years, which he eventually came to terms with. In a recent episode, Saul decided to quit his job at Ojai Foods after Holly and Tommy made too many changes to the business. Saul planned to use the opportunity to retire, allowing him to spend his golden years looking for love.
According to
Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello, Saul will soon find love, at least for about three episodes. Former
Smallville cast member
John Glover is set to appear on
Brothers & Sisters, playing a fellow gay man who Saul quickly falls for.
Ausiello reports that Saul will meet Glover's character, Andrew, while attending the symphony. The two soon bond over their mutual love of music, books, art, and all the classier things in life. Though Glover has signed on for a minimum of three episodes, it's always possible his character could return somewhere down the line.
Smallville fans may find it strange seeing the man who played the extremely evil Lionel Luthor in a romantic role, but I think this is perfect casting. Glover may be known for his villainous turns in everything from
Smallville to
Batman & Robin, but on stage he's had a variety of interesting dramatic roles, including a Tony Award-winning turn in
Love! Valour! Compassion! It'll be nice to see him return to television in a role that doesn't require him to be the cackling villain.
It's unknown when Glover will make his first appearance on the series, but an announcement should be made soon. This Sunday's episode of
Brothers & Sisters, entitled "You Get What You Need," finds Nora and Holly preparing for battle after Nora discovers that her rival has been searching for the long-lost Ryan. As crazy as the Walker clan can be at times, it's no surprise that Saul's new boyfriend will flee after just a few episodes.
Would you go on a date with John Glover?
