While the story is actually absurdly comic, we can't help but feel sorry for Brothers and Sisters star Matthew Rhys. A report from Contact Music has confirmed that the 34-year-old actor was mugged by a pregnant woman in his native country Wales. He was with his pal, Fantastic Four star Ioan Gruffudd at the time and both of them were apparently tipsy.
Having passed out drunk from Gruffudd's birthday at their favorite pub, Matthew Rhys faced a desperate mother-to-be on the street. She approached them and took advantage of the situation as the duo headed home. It sure sounds like something straight out of a TV series, but it's creepier because it's real.
Since he had quite a lot to drink, the
Brothers and Sisters star admitted he had no recollection of the incident. He only found out about what happened when he awoke to find his keys and wallet missing the next morning.
Trying to remember what happened, Matthey Rhys said, "I was unable to stand at the time and [Ioan's] trying to hold me upright... He's got my arm around his shoulders and he's walking me to the house... at which point a lady approached him, who is with child, and said, 'Hand over your money.'"
He went on with his tale, saying that his friend Gruffudd had to explain the whole thing to him when they met the next day. "She reached in, grabbed my wallet and my money and pulled it out and there was this split second, a stand off... and then she took off. And he's standing there going, 'Do I drop him and chase her or do I let the matter go?'"
The actor, who plays the openly gay Kevin Walker on
Brothers and Sisters, wasn't too pleased when he heard the news from Ioan Gruffudd. "He came in and said, 'We were mugged last night by a pregnant woman...' He told the story and I said, 'And you chased after her?' and he went, 'Well, no, I didn't wanna drop you...' Some friend... I said, 'I'd have dropped you in a heartbeat.'"
