Born on August 11, 1968 in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Anna Gunn was educated at Northwestern University's renowned theatre department. She began acting on stage in Chicago, where she played the female lead, Lucy Lockit in the production of The Beggar's Opera. Her other theater work include Uncommon Ground at the Northlight Theater and Peacekeeper at American Blues Theater. Moving to Los Angeles, she worked on Hysteria, which was directed by Phyllida Lloyd at the Mark Taper Forum and Measure for Measure directed by Sir Peter Hall at the Ahmanson Theatre. She then moved back to New York to work on her Broadway debut with Roger Rees in The Rehearsal at the Roubdabout Theater.
For television, Gunn appeared on NYPD Blue, where she played a drug addict who wanted to leave New York to swim with the dolphins. In David E. Kelley's
The Practice , she portrayed ADA Jean Ward. She also appeared on The Guardian, Murder One,
ER ,
Seinfeld , Judging Amy and
Six Feet Under , where she played Madeleine opposite
Peter Krause .
As for film, Gunn appeared in the independent feature Without Evidence, directed by Gil Dennis and Nobody's Baby, directed by David Seltzer. She also worked on the independent movie Santa Fe and appeared in the Tony Scott film, Enemy of the State.
Gunn returned to television with
Deadwood , where she played Martha Bullock. She is also set to work on the AMC series, Breaking Bad as Skyler White.
Skyler White is played by Anna Gunn on AMC's Breaking Bad. Skyler is a writer who has published a book of short stories. She's also a dedicated housewife who sells household items on eBay, just to help her husband, Walter, a chemistry teacher, to cover the bills. Married to Walter for almost 20 years, she has given birth to Walter White, Jr. and is soon expecting their second child.
