As we approach the May 31 finale of the stinging AMC black dramedy Breaking Bad, Aaron Paul, who plays Jesse Pinkman, the intense junior partner of Bryan Cranston's chemistry teacher cum meth producer Walter White, says they have great "chemistry together," pun slightly intended.
"Everyone says, 'Yeah, you guys have great chemistry.' Jesse and Walt are the odd couple. And I think that's what really makes our characters so great. It's constantly butting heads, constant disagreeing."
Paul, 29, who also has a recurring role on the HBO series
Big Love, adds that he has a great working relationship with Cranston out of character.
"It's so great. Bryan is just the nicest guy. I've never worked with a great person like that. It's like a dream job, and the scripts are incredible. Everyone behind the scenes is brilliant. But Bryan, to work opposite him, is just a dream, really. Such a genius, but also just so gracious and generous and sweet and hilarious."
On Sunday's
Breaking Bad sophomore season finale, Jesse reportedly self-destructs after a personal blow. Could this mean there's a slight chance his character might be killed off? After all, the original plan was for his character to be killed off in the pilot.
"First of all, let me just say I am so happy that didn't happen. Oh my god. I've done so many pilots that just never go, and finally I do one and it'd just be so devastating if I got killed. But no, the original plan when Vince was pitching the arc of the first season: The character Jesse was going to meet his demise, and then the first season would launch. But after we shot the pilot, we got picked up, the whole thing changed. That was the first thing Vince said, that we gotta keep Jesse around. The butting heads was really working."
Elsewhere on the finale, Skyler (Anna Gunn) will grow increasingly frustrated with Walt's secrecy.
