Boston Legal is reportedly welcoming another guest star to its lineup, and its none other than sci-fi actor Scott Bakula.

According to TV Guide‘s Michael Ausiello, Boston Legal creator David E. Kelley has tapped Bakula to play the former flame of Shirley Schmidt, played by Candice Bergen.  This will be the second time the two will share the screen together, as Bakula played Bergen’s occasional love interest on the hit comedy series, Murphy Brown.

It is unknown at this time how long Bakula’s guest-star stint on Boston Legal will last, or whether the Star Trek: Enterprise actor will share scenes with William Shatner, another alum of the Star Trek television franchise.

Bakula’s other television credits include Designing Women, Quantum Leap, The New Adventures of Old Christine and American Body Shop.

Meanwhile, Boston Legal is scheduled to wrap production on Friday, December 14.  The show has been fortunate enough to be among the few scripted shows that are still filming despite the ongoing WGA strike.

The cast and crew of Boston Legal have been able to stay on the payroll for this long thanks to the great efforts of series creator and executive producer David E. Kelley, who finished the scripts for three episodes some time before the strike commenced early last month.  He was, however, unable to complete the script for a fourth one.

As a result, only 14 episodes for Boston Legal‘s current season will be filmed by the time production shuts down on Friday.  As with other shows, production is expected to resume when a strike settlement is reached.

Kelley co-wrote episode 12 with Susan Dickes, episode 13 with Lawrence Broch, and episode 14 with Corrine Brinkerhoff and Dickes.

Tonight, a new episode entitled “No Brains is Left Behind” is scheduled to air.  The episode is the ninth in the season.
