Previously on Boston Legal: Best friends and colleagues Alan Shore and Denny Crane celebrated their induction into the Auxiliary Coast Guard last season, but got into possibly the biggest disagreement of their friendship when Alan took on the case to help a small town secede from the Union, an act which Denny takes to be no less than treason.

Boston Legal has won many, many awards the four seasons it has been on the air so far, and with good reason. It is consistently one of the smartest, most relevant and, frankly, wackiest shows on TV. The writers relish in attacking important moral and social issues that a lesser show would skirt around, such as homeland security and gender equality, often with humor and always with sensitivity. Indeed, it seems that the writers use Boston Legal as their televised soapbox to air their grievances with the current Administration, a breath of fresh air to this liberal TV reviewer.

ABC has announced that this season, the show's fifth, will be its last season, which means that everybody reading this should make every effort to watch it every week while we still can.
