Emmy Award-winning actor
William Shatner, known most for his roles on
Star Trek and ABC's
Boston Legal, has signed with Big Screen Entertainment Group (BSEG) on multiple projects. The actor and the full service entertainment company have already begun production on their first joint effort.
"We are beyond thrilled to be working with William Shatner, one of the most beloved and respected actors of our time," BSEG's CEO Kimberley Kates said. "After achieving icon status playing Captain James T. Kirk on
Star Trek, he continues to entertain audiences every week on ABC's
Boston Legal, 40 years later: Truly an amazing career."
On
Boston Legal, Shatner plays Denny Crane, a role for which he earned both an Emmy and a Golden Globe award in the Best Supporting Actor category. The show aired its final pre-strike episode last Tuesday, but will return with six new installments on April 8. There's no official word yet on whether ABC is renewing the hit legal dramedy for a fifth season, although the show was recently picked up for syndication by ION Networks.
Shatner and his wife Elizabeth are now working with BSEG's Kates, David Zappone, Michael Manasseri and Stephen Eckelberry on a documentary that is scheduled for release in the spring.
"This documentary represents the first step in what we hope will be a long and successful partnership between Big Screen and William Shatner," Zappone, the president of BSEG, said. "His energy and creativity are boundless, and we feel that Big Screen is the perfect home for his future projects."
Aside from his new partnership with BSEG, Shatner has also been busy with the upcoming comedy-horror flick
Horrorween, in which he, along with several other celebrities like Alice Cooper, Dom Deluise and Jenna Jameson, makes a special cameo appearance. The movie is written by Ed Meyer, Mike Muscat, Judd Rubin (
Friends) and Jason Sanchez, and directed by Joe Estevez.
