Best known for his role on the 2007 drama comedy The Darjeeling Limited, Jason Schwartzman is set to star in an upcoming HBO comedy about a man with a drink problem who moonlights as a private detective.

Schwartzman will play struggling thirty-something Brooklyn writer with a drinking problem on Bored to Death. He decides to emulate heroes from classic private detective novels after a painful breakup with his girlfriend. Pretending to be an actual private detective, he starts on taking cases, but ends up making other worse. "Well, I've gotten into the business at a young age," he says. "I have been reading so many of these detective novels that I know what to do."


Bored to Death was written by The Alcoholic's Jonathan Ames, and also stars Ted Danson from another HBO comedy Curb Your Enthusiasm and Zach Galifianakis from The Hangover.

Schwartzman is best known for his roles in Shopgirl, Spun, Rushmore, I Heart Huckabees, and Marie Antoinette. He is also currently in the band Coconut Records; formerly, he was a member of the rock band Phantom Planet. Bored to Death is not his first foray into television. He was on a short-lived 2004 Fox comedy called Cracking Up, from School of Rock writer Mike White

Danson, meanwhile, is best known for his role as Sam Malone on Cheers, Dr. John Becker on Becker, and most recently on Curb. Galifianakis had his breakout role in the hugely successful 2009 comedy The Hangover, starring Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, and Heather Graham.

Bored to Death is set for a September 20 premiere.
