Born on July 20, 1985 in Wheeling, Illinois, John Francis Daley is a film actor and director best known for his portrayal of Sam Weir on the short-lived NBC dramedy, Freaks and Geeks. He began acting in the national and international tour of The Who's Tommy, where he played the titular role. He also worked on The Geena Davis Show, Regular Joe and Kitchen Confidential. He had the recurring role of Anthony Ward on Boston Public in 2000.
In talking about managing his school work with his acting job, Daley said in an interview with Cult Star Confidential, "I had a tutor for most of my time in high school. When I was a freshman, I got Freaks and Geeks. I basically went from that to my next job to my next job. I never felt like I was missing out on high school, because I realized what an incredible experience I was having. Everyone can say that they went to high school, but not everyone can say that during high school they were doing a television show about high school."
In 2007, Daley's recurring character of Dr. Larry Sweets on the television show, Bones, was promoted to series regular.
In talking about his character, Daley said to Zap2It, "I am a very green psychotherapist and I am treating Agent Booth and Dr. Brennan like they're a couple. It's a couples therapy session, which my character likes because it's a nice change from 'the crazies,' as he puts it. So I'm very new to it and making up theories as I go along, while at the same following strict textbook diagnostics."
He continued, "I think my character believes in what he's saying most of the time, but at the same time, a lot of it is bull. So it's fun to run to run off interpretations of things and not exactly have them be entirely accurate. I've done a little bit of research, but at the same time It's fun to be slightly ignorant. I think that there's a comic element to my character -- the fact that he's so new to it, the fact that he's a 22-year-old with these highly trained professionals and basically telling them what's what wrong. It's also fun to be a little bit older in this, to play my age, which I haven't done much since 'Freaks & Geeks.'"
