Joshua Charles Malina was born on January 17, 1966 in New Rochelle, New York where he was also raised. His parents were founding members of Young Israel of Scarsdale, and his father took on several occupations like being an attorney, investment banker and Broadway producer. Malina graduated from Yale University with a degree in theater. His Broadway debut was in Aaron Sorkin's
A Few Good Men. From 1998 to 2000 he starred as Jeremy Goodwin on Sorkin's
Sports Night which lasted for two seasons. Two years later he was cast for the series
The West Wing where he played Will Bailey, the role that he is best known for. He stayed on the show for four years and still appears in every project written or produced by Sorkin, except for Studio 60. Malina has also appeared in several movies, including
View From the Top and
Separate Lives. He also appears as a guest star on the television series
Numb3rs and recently was cast for the new ABC series
Big Shots.
