Nia Long plays Katie Graham on ABC's new series,
Big Shots. The Brooklyn-born, Iowa-raised actress was on
The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson Tuesday, where the Scottish talk show host grilled her on her personal life, dating rules and preferences.
Prior to joining
Big Shots, Long was a regular on the police drama,
Third Watch, as well as a guest on a few episodes on
Boston Legal.
“I won't go out with a broke shot,” the 36-year old actress told Craig Ferguson on Tuesday when he asked the
Big Shots actress whether she had any specific rules on dating. “I am not going into my pocketbook.”
Long pointed out however, that it doesn't mean she's merely interested in bagging a rich sugar daddy, citing the fact that she is her own woman. She does, however, firmly believe that her choice of partner should be someone who can be an appropriate match for her.
“I won't be with someone just for financial stability because I'm an independent woman, but I do think it's important that my mate be my equal” Long said on
The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.
She is also of the opinion that when it comes to commitment, women are now in a position to go after what they want without necessarily having to lose their self-respect.
“And also the rules in terms of making it official, those types of rules – I think, you know what? This is 2007. Women should do what they feel – be responsible in loving and respect yourself and also get what you want,” Long added.
Another thing the actress definitely draws a line on are dentures, which she considers a “deal breaker” because she's “not into things falling out during intimate moments.”
When asked whether she's seeing anybody right now, the
Big Shots co-star said “I'm having fun. I'm happy. I broke all the rules with him – totally.”
