While HBO's polygamous drama is taking its time building anticipation for its return, the series stars have decided to take on other projects of their own.
Big Love's
Ginnifer Goodwin managed to snag a role for herself in an upcoming film called
A Single Man. Starring Colin Firth, the movie marks the directorial debut of fashion designer Tom Ford. Several sources have confirmed that Goodwin has jumped in to join the stellar cast which includes Julianne Moore and Matthew Goode.
Playing Margene Heffman on
Big Love, Ginnifer Goodwin booked the film role of an intrigued neighbor who befriends Colin Firth's character.
A Single Man is actually an adaptation of Christopher Isherwood's 1964 novel of the same name. It follows the trials faced by a gay professor (Firth) in the 1960's, and how he confronts them.
Goodwin landed the role at the same time as newcomer Nicholas Hault was cast. Hault, whose film credits include
About a Boy, will be playing a student who is perplexed about his own sexuality.
Filming of
A Single Man will begin this week in Los Angeles, and the movie will likely be released sometime next year. The screenplay of the movie was adapted by Ford, working with David Searce. Ford has since talked about sitting on the director's chair ever since he left Gucci in 2004, and he quickly acquired the movie rights to
A Single Man since then.
Meanwhile, Firth was last seen playing a stereotypically flamboyant character on the musical comedy
Mamma Mia. It would definitely be exciting to see him take on a more serious queer role in
A Single Man.
Since
Big Love has finished up working on its third season and will release it early next year, Goodwin has signed on for other productions. She will next be seen on the ensemble romantic comedy
He's Just Not That Into You, where she plays Gigi.
Big Love also stars
Bill Paxton as the protagonist Bill Henrickson,
Jeanne Tripplehorn,
Chloe Sevigny, Amanda Seyfried, and Douglas Smith. The series premiered in the United States in March of 2006, with its third season to be launched on HBO in January 2009.
