Mark V. Olsen, one of the creators of HBO's
Big Love, is juggling his time between filming the new season of the polygamy-themed drama and overseeing his upcoming play
Cornelia, which will be seen at the Old Globe's main stage on May 21, 2008 through June 21, 2009.
Cornelia features the rise and fall of beauty queen Cornelia Folsom and Gov. George Wallace, a political of couple with White House ambitions in 1970s Alabama.
On the other hand, the
Big Love creator's play isn't the only production on the Old Globe's 2008-2009 winter season slate. The theater, which is located in San Diego, California and produces about 15 plays and musicals annually, will also be opening with
The Woman, Boothe Luce's 1936 classic about pampered socialites, on September 21 through October 26. In addition, the mainstage will also feature its 11th annual staging of
Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas! on November 20 to December 28, John Guare's
Six Degrees of Separation on January 15, 2009 to February 15, 2009 and an unnamed production on March 6, 2009 to April 26, 2009.
Due to construction of the Old Globe's new facilities, other stage offerings will be presented in a newly created arena space at the San Diego Museum of Art's James S. Copley Auditorium.
Meanwhile, fans can watch out for the third season of
Big Love this coming fall on HBO. The polygamy drama series follows
Bill Paxton as modern-day Utah polygamist Bill Henrickson, who lives in suburban Salt Lake City, as he balances his three wives, seven children, and a mounting avalanche of debt and demands. The series also features
Jeanne Tripplehorn,
Ginnifer Goodwin,
Chloë Sevigny, Amanda Seyfried, Douglas Smith, Harry Dean Stanton, Mary Kay Place, Bruce Dern, Shawn Doyle, Grace Zabriskie, and Joel McKinnon Miller, just to name a few.
