'Big Love' Actress Takes the Lead in 'S. Darko'

Daveigh Chase, who plays child bride of a prophet Roman Grant (Harry Dean Stanton) on HBO's
Big Love, will soon be headed to the big screen to frighten audiences with her latest thriller film. After appearing as Jake Gyllenhall's younger sister in the cult movie
Donnie Darko in 2001, the 18-year-old actress will be reprising her role as Samantha Darko in the sequel thriller called
S. Darko.
This isn't Chase's first movie role. Prior to landing the role of Rhonda Volmer on
Big Love, she first won the lead role as the voice of Hawaiian girl Lilo Pelekai in the Disney animated feature
Lilo & Stitch. For her performance in the film, Chase won an Annie Award in 2003 and was offered to star in the follow up TV series,
Lilo & Stitch: The Series.
Subsequent to her Disney projects, Chase starred in role of Samara Morgan in the horror flick
The Ring, in which she was awarded the Best Villain award at the MTV Movie Awards for her performance, beating out Mike Myers, Colin Farrell, Willem Dafoe and Daniel Day-Lewis. Her other credits include R.L. Stine's
Haunted Lighthouse, Touched By An Angel, Charmed, ER, Family Law, and
The Practice.
As Samantha in
S. Darko, the
Big Love actress finds herself with a broken family at the age of 17. In the wake of her brother Donnie's death, she decides to go on a road trip to Hollywood with her best friend Corey in attempt to make it big. Unfortunately, their journey is cut short when their car breaks down unexpectedly, leaving them stranded in small desert town. Shortly after, a meteorite crash-lands nearby and Samantha is haunted by bizarre visions indicating the end of the universe. In due course, she finds out a disturbing secret from her past, while she takes it upon herself to save the world.
S. Darko is expected to hit theaters in 2009.
