American actress and sometime-musician Marla Sokoloff was born on December 19, 1980 in San Francisco, California. She moved to Los Angeles in 1994, where she entered the Los Angeles County High School of the Arts; there, she became known for her singing, and performed the national anthem at several high-profile events. At age 12, she entered the world of acting, making her debut as a guest in the comedy series Boy Meets World. Her first major television role, however, came a year later, when she joined the cast of the comedy Full House. She took on the role of Gia Mahan, the rebellious archenemy (and later best friend) of Stephanie Tanner (Jodie Sweetin).

After roles in other programs, such as Home Improvement, Party of Five and 7th Heaven, Sokoloff got her biggest break. In 1998, she joined the cast of the legal drama The Practice, where she became popular for playing the role of wise-cracking and nosy receptionist Lucy Hatcher. Her character progressed to eventually become a part-time counselor for rape victims, but she was fired from the show in 2003 because of budget cuts. Nevertheless, she starred as a guest in the show’s final episodes in 2004.

In 2006, Sokoloff joined the cast of another sitcom, Modern Men. The series did not last a season after the merger of the WB, its home network, and UPN to form the CW. Later that year, she joined another sitcom, Big Day, where she played the role of beleaguered bride Alice. The series was cancelled after 12 episodes because of disappointing ratings. She also had a three-episode role in the hit drama series Desperate Housewives.

Sokoloff has also appeared in several films. Her film debut was in 1995, appearing in the family comedy The Baby-Sitters Club. Her other films include True Crime, The Climb, Love on the Side, The Drive and Crazylove. She also worked as a musician, initially as the lead guitarist and vocalist for the Los Angeles-based band Smittin, until she pursued a solo career in 2003. Three years later, she released her first album, Grateful.

Marla Lynne Sokoloff is an American movie and television actress born on December 19, 1980 in San Francisco, California. She has also had roles in a number of feature films, among them Love on the Side, Prairie Dogs, and Dude, Where's My Car? Aside from her acting career, she also enjoys music and owns a large collection of guitars.

Lucy Hatcher is played by Marla Sokoloff in the Emmy Award-winning legal drama series The Practice. She works as the firm's receptionist, and often has a wisecrack or quip ready for her colleagues. She was hired as a replacement for the previous receptionist Rebecca Washington, after Rebecca finishes her night classes at a law school and passes the bar exam, becoming an associate of the firm. Aside from her work as a receptionist, Lucy also works as a counselor for victims of rape.
