Do you like spying on people, but don't have enough money for the downtown penthouse and high powered telescope? Then, CBS and
Big Brother have the answer. The new
Big Brother spin-off (although it's not really a spin-off, more of an add-on, like Nintendo's Power Glove),
Big Brother: After Dark will begin airing on Showtime sister network, ShoToo. The new show will air nightly for three hours and will, in essence, be a live look-in at the Big Brother 8 contestants. Most importantly, Big Brother: After Dark will be completely uncensored, featuring all the profanity and nudity the house mates are prepared to unleash. The question for Big Brother fans is this: Should you splurge and subscribe to ShoToo, even if you're only doing so for one show?
Thousands of fans already subscribe to the around-the-clock live feeds for fifteen bucks a month, but those video feeds are far lower in quality than what they can now receive on Big Brother: After Dark. Depending on your cable provider, subscribing to Showtime and ShoToo should cost you around ten dollars a month. Of course, if you go the pay cable route, you won't get the full 24 hour coverage.
But, isn't three hours enough? If you're spending more than three hours a day watching the hamsters in the Big Brother house, you likely have issues far more pressing than “should I buy the Showtime cable package?”
The producers have stated that the Big Brother: After Dark air time (9PM-12AM PT/12AM-3AM ET) is right in line with the house mates' “prime-time”. This means, for the Big Brother laymen, that those are the hours when the contestants are usually the drunkest, which almost always makes for good TV.
So, when it comes down to it, if you are a huge Big Brother fan, you're probably best off just biting the bullet and subscribing to ShoToo. It gives you all the perks of the live feeds in a nice three hour package, completely uncensored, and with far higher picture quality. What more can a fan ask for?
