Big Brother 9: Finale Recap
Sunday, April 27, 2008

Big Brother 9 is over.  I feel like a gigantic orangutan has leaped off my back.  Not to pile on about Big Brother 9, but there is a certain viewer fatigue that sets in once you realize that none of your favorite house guests will win the half million dollars.  What this season lacked (for me, at least) was a clear protagonist and antagonist.  Everyone was sort of in the middle.  Either they were vaguely likable, or they were forgettably evil.  Mostly, they were just people being themselves, which is the problem.  The best characters in Big Brother history were just that – characters.  They put on a specific persona outside of who they actually are (think Dr. Will and Evel Dick).  Tonight's finale was a typical affair, mostly devoid of unnecessary filler.

The episode began with a long recap of the whole season.  We know the major plot points, but it's always a little fun to watch the early scenes from the first couple of episodes.  From there, the jurors discussed amongst themselves where their respective heads are at coming into the jury questions.  These conversations feel weirdly staged – why the house guests would suddenly be aware of the cameras when they've been filmed 24/7 for an extended time is beyond me.  Anyway, after that, it's all about the jury questions.  They were typically bitter and brutal.  Sheila, especially, was angry at Adam for a perceived throw of the final Head of Household challenge.  Chelsia is in bitchy mode again, and makes little sense.  Matt is reasonable, as is James

For the final vote, it's a landslide.  Adam gets four votes by the time Ryan gets one.  Adam is the winner of Big Brother 9.  It's hard to argue that he doesn't deserve it.  Earlier in the episode he said that he would pledge $100,000 to create an after-school program for kids in need.  Adam is a nice guy, and for all his bluster over the season, he's a deserving winner.  Good for him.

Will Adam actually give the 100 grand to charity?
Yes
No
