What the hell is
Ryan doing? One thing that bothers me about reality shows like
Survivor and
Big Brother (and something that, perhaps, makes me a bad person) is the insistence that some contestants have on remaining loyal. You entered whichever game you're playing to win life-changing money – why in the world would you jeopardize such a massive payday to keep a new friend happy? Ryan has twice now made embarrassingly poor decisions to keep his boy
Adam content, rewarding him for perceived loyalty. This is no way to play
Big Brother. He couldn't possibly believe that he has a better chance with the jury against Adam than he would against
Sheila, or even
Sharon. There were various points throughout the
Big Brother season where Ryan's decisions baffled me – either they were extremely wise or totally inexplicable. Right now, I'm leaning towards the latter.
Ryan has played an OK game. You certainly can't argue with the results. But, let's look at his two most recent decisions:
1. Not using the Power of Veto in the final four
Against Adam, Sheila and Sharon, Ryan had all the power. Depending on his PoV usage, Ryan could effectively send any of those three people home. He made the worst decision imaginable. Not only is Adam the most formidable opponent when it comes to the jury vote, he was the most dangerous of those three to keep safe. Adam, had he won that final Head of Household, probably would've evicted Ryan. Had Ryan used the veto on Sharon, Sharon would have evicted Adam. At that point, no matter who won the final Head of Household, Ryan would have made the final vote. I believe either Sharon or Sheila would have brought him there. By not using it, he forced himself to win the final HoH to stay alive. Thankfully for him, he did just that, but it was an unnecessary risk.
2. Evicting Sheila
This is the worst decision he could have made. Had Ryan taken Sheila in the final two instead of Adam, Ryan would be a shoe-in (probably) to win the half million. Also, he could have told the jury that he only brought Sheila because she needed the money, and the second place prize is a nice consolation, which would have diffused any teary “woe is me” pleas from Sheila. With Adam as his final two opponent, Ryan has essentially given away $500,000. He'll regret it for the rest of his life.
Should Ryan have brought Sheila to the final two?
