Director Brett Ratner is proving himself to be a very busy man, as he aims to push through with a remake of
Conan the Barbarian. The franchise, which debuted in 1982 but went to a sudden halt with the PG-rated
Conan the Destroyer two years later, is eyeing a modern update—and perhaps a reboot. “The story opens on the battlefield where Conan is born and tells the origin story that sets the stage for what will be the first of multiple films,” said Millenium Films executive Avi Lerner.
Regardless of whether plans push through, this project would have to take the back seat, as Paramount Pictures has signed him up for a sequel to the successful ‘80s film series
Beverly Hills Cop. With the success of its other franchises such as
Indiana Jones and
Die Hard, the studio is keen to take advantage of a small window for
Eddie Murphy, who is very much busy with other projects.
Both films are eyeing a 2010 release.
Conan has got no further details, except for their intention to take the franchise to R-rated territory.
BHC, on the other hand, wants to become one of that summer’s big releases.
