Luke Perry was best known for his role on
Beverly Hills 90210. As Dylan Michael McKay, he was considered the quintessential bad boy of the series, noted for being a surfing school rebel, a recovering alcoholic and a drug addict. He was romantically involved with Brenda Walsh (
Shannen Doherty), Valerie Malone (Tiffani-Amber Thiessen), Gina Kincaid (Vanessa Marcil), Antonia Marchette (Rebecca Gayheart) and Kelly Taylor (
Jennie Garth), whom he pursued repeatedly throughout the series. In the coming months, the 40-year-old actor will be marking his comeback with a new family drama movie.
Currently in post-production stages is the film
Alice, which features the former
90210 actor as one of the principle cast members. He plays Ben McKinley, a widower and father of lead character Alice (Alyson Stoner), in a story about putting the painful past behind to move on into the future. Penny Marshall and
Lucas Grabeel (
High School Musical) are also featured in the drama.
After his stint on
Beverly Hills 90210,
Luke Perry continued to acquire more roles on the television, as well as on the big screen. Some of his movies included
Attention Shoppers, The Enemy and
Fogbound.
On the small screen, he appeared on 10 episodes of HBO's
Oz as Reverend Jeremiah Cloutier prior to his lead role as Jeremiah on the series of the same name. He also tapped into some sitcoms as a guest star, most notably on
What I Like About You, where he reunited with
90210 costar Jennie Garth in a three-episode arc.
Most recently, he starred on short-lived series like
Windfall as Peter Schaefer, and HBO's recently canceled show,
John From Cincinnati, in which he played the surf talent scout manager Linc Stark.
