Now if only
Shannen Doherty would sign up along with
Luke Perry, the coming new
90210 series on The CW will really look like the zip code show that was one of my youth's guilty pleasures. I'm talking about the latest confirmed
Beverly Hills 90210 alum to come on board the spin-off of the cult `90s teen drama. No less than
Tori Spelling, daughter of the late Aaron Spelling who produced the original
Beverly Hills 90210, is reprising her role of Donna Martin in the new incarnation of her former show.
Spelling will reunite with her former
Beverly Hills co-star,
Jennie Garth, who had already agreed to essay her old role of Kelly Taylor in the impending
90210 on The CW.
“I think the fans would be really excited to see Donna Martin back,” Spelling said during her visit to
The Billy Bush Show last week. “And I'd be excited to play her again. It's been a long time.”
A press release from the The CW announced how Spelling's old character will be integrated into the new
90210 canvas: “Donna Martin will be the owner of one of the coolest stores in Beverly Hills, a shopping spot that is frequented by the new cast of characters.”
Last month, before any confirmation of her participation in the new
90210, the pregnant Tori Spelling remarked to Usmagazine.com, "In some way, every show that followed
90210 was a remake of
90210. For the fans' sake, I am really happy for them."
For her part, Jennie Garth told Access Hollywood at The CW's upfront presentation that the new zip code series promises to stretch boundaries as far as possible.
“(The executive producers) were telling me what they were going to do with the show and I was (like), ‘Wow! Is that what it is really like out there for teenagers?'” Garth narrated. “It's just a different world and there is just so much accessible to young people now, so there is a lot to talk about now, [a lot] to deal with.”
Garth comes in as a guidance counselor at West Beverly High School in the re-invented
90210, which takes off some time this fall.
