Despite premiering to humble ratings, ABC's
Better Off Ted was generally well-received by critics. The sci-fi comedy opened in the offices of Veridian Dynamics, where we met protagonist Ted, played by Jay Harrington, who gave the viewers a running tour of the place, including what happens on an average day. We got to meet his minions, Lem and Phil, played by Malcolm Barrett and Jonathan Slavin, who were working on zany experiments that included pumpkin weapons and edible steel. There's also his boss, played by Portia de Rossi, and his love interest Linda who's a product tester, played by Andrea Anders. On its first offering, Ted was caught in the middle when the company decided to freeze Phil (Jonathan Slavin) in its new cryogenics chamber.
Meanwhile, on tonight's episode called “Heroes,” Ted and Veronica (de Rossi) fake an award for Phil so he won't sue the company, following the altercation from last episode.
As it enjoys generally positive reviews, Entertainment Weekly warns that
Better Off Ted's “bouncy make-believe world” and “pathos-free characters” that resembled
Pushing Daisies and
Eli Stone, both of which canceled earlier than generally hoped.
Catch
Better Off Ted tonight on ABC.
