'Beauty and the Geek' Creator Teams Up with Tyra Banks in Search for 'True Beauty'
Ashton Kutcher and
Tyra Banks have long been familiar with the quest for beauty in the world of reality TV. Kutcher served as the creator and executive producer of
Beauty and the Geek while Banks is the creator and star of
America's Next Top Model and
The Tyra Banks Show. While both have their own ideas of what makes a person truly beautiful, they've decided to combine their expertise to re-define the concept of beauty on a new show called
True Beauty.
Premiering on ABC on Monday, January 5 at 10pm ET/PT,
True Beauty features six stunning females and four handsome males who will live together in a spectacular Los Angeles mansion as they undergo a series of challenges to determine who is truly the most beautiful. The show will be hosted and judged by Vanessa Minnillo, who previously hosted
TRL and
ET, along with judges Cheryl Tiegs, author and designer, and Nol Marin, fashion expert for E! and
The Tyra Banks Show.
Unbeknownst to the contestants, who assume they're being judged solely on the physical appearance, the judges are looking for inner beauty as well, especially when they're put through scenarios and situations that require them to make moral decisions. Throughout the series, contestants will be put through outer beauty and inner beauty challenges, during which they will be critiqued on everything from how well they present themselves in photo shoots to how well they respect their elders.
As expected, one person will be eliminated each week. But only after someone is eliminated will the truth about the show be revealed to the axed contestant while watching a video montage of his or her behavior captured by a hidden camera during the shoot. In the end, the person who is truly beautiful inside and out will be crowned the winner of a cash prize and a spot in
People magazine's 100 Most Beautiful People issue.
This marks the latest reality TV venture of the
Beauty and the Geek producer. Aside from
Beauty and the Geek, Kutcher is also credited for
Punk'd, Pop Fiction, Room 401, and
Adventures in Hollywood, among others.
