'Beauty and the Geek' Producer Working On New Film

Beauty and the Geek creator Ashton Kutcher hasn't had a film released since he did a voice role for the 2006 animated film Open Season. That's kind of a long time in Hollywood years for a young actor, but that doesn't mean he's been resting on his laurels.

Beauty and the Geek
has continued to go strong, with the CW Network signing the show up for a fifth season. He's also working on the new program Game Show in My Head, with Chris Kattan as host. He's got the film What Happens in Vegas co-starring Cameron Diaz on its way to being released. Now, he has another film slated to be released in the future called Personal Effects.

The Beauty and the Geek producer will be starring in the film along with Michelle Pfieffer and Kathy Bates.

Ashton is said to play Andrew Wakefield, a man who is dealing with flashbacks of his sister who recently died as he tries to start a new job as a wedding planner.

Personal Effects
is based on a short story by author Rick Moody (who also wrote the screenplay). Moody is also the author of the novel that was turned into the 1997 film The Ice Storm. That film had an all-star cast and was directed by Ang Lee, and garnered much critical praise. Ashton might be making a smart career move to more seriously transition into a more dramatic roles via a smaller film with what would expect to be a solid script.

The film was said to begin production in Vancouver in November of last year, and is currently slated to be released in 2009. Meanwhile, Beauty and the Geek will be returning with a new season on March 11, so while its producer pursues dramatic success, the “social experiment” continues to find new specimens.
