Battlestar Galactica and
Farscape fans will be receiving a gift from SciFi Channel this fall. The network has announced that they will be running minisode seasons for both franchises. A relief for
Battlestar Galactica fans suffering a long hiatus, and a pleasant surprise for the rabid fans the Jim Henson company's ill-fated
Farscape, which became the target of a revival campaign the
Jericho folks would have been proud of.

I haven't seen nBSG, so I cannot comment on that, but yeah, SG1 is good, but I like B5 better. Farscape is ...

FarScape is the greatest sci-fi series of all time. BSG comes in second place, followed by SG1, IMHO.

BSG is one of the best shows I have ever seen. I can't wait.
The minisodes will air first on SciFi Channel, and then will be made available via the channel's web site. The
Battlestar Galactica minisodes will feature a young Adama (played by Nico Cortez) as he discovers a Cylon weapon that will somehow have impact on future events. Cortez will also be playing young Adama in the
Battlestar Galactica movie “Razor.”
Aside from Cortez, it isn't clear if any of the
Razor cast will be making an appearance in the minisodes. The minisodes are set to debut in October, a month in advance of the late November premiere of
Razor.
The
Farscape minisodes were an unexpected announcement. The 10-episode run has no plot or cast attached yet, but some are saying if the series is well received it could lead to an on air resurrection of the fan favorite.
Ifmagazine.com's Sean Elliott posted an interview with SciFi Channel's Executive Vice President Dave Howe. “We don't know. Literally, we closed the deal yesterday, so we haven't gotten into any of the creative conversations about casting, or story; all of that is yet to come. It is based on
Farscape so it will involve the characters from the series, but we don't know who or what.”
Whether or not the
Farscape minisodes lead to a full on revival or not, fans of the original series will no doubt be bursting with excitement over this freshly inked deal over the next couple of the days.
Battlestar Galactica fans are already rejoicing the fact that their long wait for Colonial and Cylon goodness has just been shortened, if only by a month.
