TV series that are adapted from movies are rarely successful but there are a few exceptions and it looks like CBS' Bad Teacher is one of them, at least based on the promos released by the network. If you haven't seen the 2011 movie starring Cameron Diaz, who also happens to be the producer of the comedy series, it's about a gold-digging middle school teacher who curses at her students and whose motivation includes marrying a wealthy man and getting a boob job. While the groundwork is essentially the same, the TV series has plenty to offer as far as character development and plot are concerned.

Ari Graynor, who is credited for her roles in The Sopranos and Fringe, takes the lead as as Meredith Davis on Bad Teacher.  Meredith is a trophy wife who is forced to start over when she gets "dumped, divorced and broke due to a bad pre-nup." She then embarks on a mission to marry a wealthy single dad by posing as a middle school teacher. She lands the teaching job thanks to  Principal Carl Gaines, who easily falls for Meredith's scheme and even gains a potential best friend in the form of introverted teacher Irene. Also spicing things up are Joel, her former high school classmate who now works as a gym teacher, and up-tight faculty president Ginny, who suspects that Meredith is up to no good.

Meredith may be a bad teacher but she challenges everyone and she doesn't sugar coat the truth. She's also a breath of fresh air for the kids at Richard M. Nixon middle school. Check out the hilarious dynamics between Meredith and the kids in these videos:

The series also stars Kristin Davis as Ginny Taylor-Clapp, David Alan Grier as Carl Gaines, Sara Gilbert as Irene, Ryan Hansen as Joel Kotsky and Sara Rodier as Lily.

Bad Teacher premieres Thursday, April 24 9:30pm on CBS.
