Josh Gad is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon School of Drama and is a student of the Groundlings improvisational troupe. He is also a co-founder and member of The Lost Nomads Comedy Troupe. His theater credits include All in the Timing, The Crucible, Skin of Our Teeth, Axis of E and Roberto. Gad has also appeared on ER and has won a Tony Award for playing the role of William Barfeé in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.

Ryan Church is played by Josh Gad in the series, Back to You. Ryan is an overstressed new director who is in charge of running the crew of the local TV news in Pittsburgh. He works with Chuck Darling and Kelly Carr, the two most prominent newscasters in the city. Chuck momentarily went away in search for greener pastures, but he returns with a head bowed down. Will his return make things better for Ryan?
