After a long season that saw several top contenders fall, The Glee Project
is about to crown a winner for season 2. The finale will feature
professional actor Blake Jenner, wheelchair-bound Ali Stroker and
Turkish-Muslim Aylin Bayramoglu competing for a seven-episode guest arc
's fourth season.
Not all titles featured on BuddyTV are available through Amazon Prime.
But which one will win? Ryan Murphy and company have promised that, unlike last season, there will be only ONE winner. Let's look at the pros and cons of each contestant.Blake JennerPros
: He's been a frontrunner from day one and the judges regularly praised his star power. He's good-looking and the most talented actor of the entire season.Cons
: He can't harmonize, the one crack in his armor. The judges also find him a little too perfect and flawless, which troubles them because he doesn't seem like an underdog.Blake's Potential Role
: I've written about what I think Blake should play
, and his character in the "Perfect" movie trailer strengthened my case that he could be a football star who is secretly a teenage father.Ali StrokerPros
: She's the most gleeful of the final contestants, always smiling. She's incredibly bubbly with a killer musical theater voice. Ali is also the ONLY contestant this season to win two homework assignments.Cons
: The show already has a character in a wheelchair and briefly did a subplot with Quinn in one as well. That doesn't mean there can't be another one, but it does mean that the show's writers have already covered some of the ground they might use for Ali.Ali's Potential Role
: Glee writer Ian Brennan instantly pegged her as a "promiscuous bitch" while Ryan Murphy saw her as a Dolly Parton-esque sexpot. She could definitely play the new HBIC, taking over Santana's old role. A Cheerio in a wheelchair (a Wheelio?) could be very entertaining, especially since it would defy convention.Aylin BayramogluPros
: The judges LOVE that she's a Muslim because it's something they haven't done on the show. It's quite similar to Murphy's obsession with Samuel Larsen last season as an unconventional Christian (clearly Murphy is fascinated by religion). If there are any musical theater-loving Mormons out there, I strongly encourage you to apply for next season of The Glee Project, if there is one. Or maybe they could have a Zoroastrian.Cons
: Aylin has been in the bottom a lot more than Blake or Ali. She's had stumbling blocks in terms of focus.Aylin's Potential Role
: Obviously she'd be the flirtatious Muslim from a conservative family. Since Sam is breaking up with Mercedes, Trouty Mouth seems like the perfect boyfriend for her character. There would definitely be some struggles as I doubt a conservative Muslim family would embrace a former stripper dating their daughter. Or, if the Glee
writers wanted to try and solve thousands of years of religious turmoil, Aylin's Muslim character and Samuel Larsen's God-loving Joe Hart could become a couple.Who Will Win?
Blake is definitely a star and he probably deserves it more than anyone based on the fact that he's an actual actor (although it makes me wonder why Robert Ulrich didn't just cast him regularly instead of putting him in this competition). However, I think his terrifying performance in the "Perfect" music video opened a potential door for him to land a one or two episode role on the second season of American Horror Story
, which just recently began filming.
Ali is a dark horse, although the more I think about it, the more I love the idea of a sex-crazed, bitchy, obnoxiously perky cheerleader in a wheelchair. That's definitely not something I've seen before.
But at the end of the day, I predict that Aylin will win
. First of all, New Directions needs women. Even with the two new female characters
, there are only five high school girls, and that includes Sugar. Secondly, as The Glee Project
proved last year with Samuel and Cameron, Ryan Murphy is obsessed with religion. The "I want to write a young, female Muslim character to try and change people's minds just like I did with teenage homosexuality" angle will most likely be too strong for him to resist.
Who do you think will win it all? Will Ryan Murphy go back on his promise to only name one winner by letting Blake guest star on American Horror Story
? And will Glee
bring back the 12 losers from season 2 of The Glee Project
as one of the rival teams competing at Sectionals? Probably not, but you have to admit, that would be insanely awesome.
