As Uncle
Iroh might tell us, patience is a virtue. But patience as an
Avatar: The Last Airbender fan can only last so long before we just want Nickelodeon to hurry up and air the last few episodes already.
Good news,
Avatar fans. If you haven't yet heard, the remaining half of Book 3: Fire is coming to American TV in just six weeks. Though several episodes beyond the mid-season two parter "The Day of Black Sun" have aired outside of the US, and a few of those are already out on DVD, come July 14 Nickelodeon will finally air the last ten episodes of the series.
It feels like it's been so long since a new episode of
Avatar aired on Nickelodeon that it might be good to have a refresher. When last we left
Aang,
Katara,
Sokka and
Toph, they were escaping with a few others after their failure to take down the Fire Nation. Fire Lord Ozai and
Azula gloated in their victory as they took captive many of those who staged the attack. Most important to quite a few
Avatar fans, though–
Zuko finally renounced his father and set off in search of Aang so as to help him complete his destiny.
After the loss of Ba Sing Se and now the beating taken during the Day of Black Sun, Aang and crew have a big task ahead of them. Aang only has a short window in which to learn fire bending before Sozin's Comet lights up the sky and the Fire Nation become more powerful than ever.
If there's one thing
Avatar: The Last Airbender knows how to do exceptionally well it's stage a finale. Book 1's battle at the North Pole took the show to a whole new level, and Book 2's amazing and unexpected fight over the great Earth Kingdom city of Ba Sing Se proved that
Avatar was more than just an average, every day animated series. I'm not sure what lies in store for this season's end, but based on the finale trailer unveiled at the New York Comic Con back in April, it's going to be amazing:
Avatar: The Last Airbender resumes airing in the US on Nickelodeon on July 14 with “The Western Air Temple.” If you're like me and have already seen the episode, you know it's pretty darn fantastic but want more. Nick promises to continue airing all of the remaining episodes of Book 3 straight through, capping the series off with the grand two-hour finale comprised of the last four episodes. The complete DVD box set of Book 3 is slated to be released on September 16 so we can relive the entire third season once again – this time without the insane seven month gap between the middle and the end.
