After a final week that had a record 19 million viewers tuning in, Nickelodeon announced the release of a new avatar multiplayer online global game inspired by
Avatar: The Last Airbender.
The game, called Avatar: Legends of the Arena, lets players create their own Avatar character and even test their skills against players from all over the world in several 3D online arenas.
Serving as the prequel story to the TV series, each game level will introduce and unlock new content, challenges, and even custom character outfits!
Nick.com Senior Vice President said the online game will give Avatar fans the chance to connect tangibly with the series that have spawned a sort of cult following, with massive fan bases all over the world.
"The launch of this multiplayer online game gives Avatar fans the opportunity to immerse themselves in the storylines during and beyond its tenure on-air. This property has always had a deep online connection with its audience and the game offers a natural extension of the franchise to keep fans engaged with the property indefinitely."
Each online arena will host battles featuring up to four players at a time, but it won't be all about fighting, as players can also engage in role play to build their characters through training and arena duels. Players will be able to upgrade their characters and learn new bending movies and acquire more equipment as they go along.
The global gaming event is also Nick.com's first 3D multiplayer online RPG. It's supposed to be huge, with 81 markers in ten languages. In addition, a total of 77 countries will launch the game on September 15, with other markets following suit the next few months. It will be released in the U.S., U.K., Australia, New Zealand, India, Southeast Asia, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Spain, Italy, France, Korea, Japan, Brazil and Portugal, among others.
The global game will live on a dedicated website (http://www.avatarlegends.com) and the beta version of the game (http://www.tinyurl.com/5j6j6j) was unveiled at Comic-Con International in San Diego on July 25.
