Avatar: Nominated for "Favorite Cartoon" in Nickelodeon's 21st Annual Kids' Choice Awards
Avatar: The Last Airbender can add “Favorite Cartoon” in its list of honors given that the adventure-fantasy series has now been nominated in Nickelodeon's 21st Annual Kids' Choice Awards. Scheduled to commence on Saturday, March 29 at the Pauley Pavilion, in Westwood, California, the awards show honors the year's biggest television, movie and music acts, as voted by the children who watch the Nickelodeon cable channel.
Hosted by Jack Black, the awards show will also feature tons of celebrities and musical guests including Jessica Alba, who's been nominated for Favorite Movie Actress for F
antastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer,
Drake Bell and
Josh Peck, who both have been nominated for Favorite TV actor for
Drake & Josh, Beyonce and
Hannah Montana's
Miley Cyrus, who both have been nominated for Favorite Female Singer, and Johnny Depp, who's been nominated for Favorite Movie Actor for
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, just to name a few.
This isn't the first time
Avatar has been recognized by an award-giving body. In the 2005 Pulcinella Awards, it won Best Action/Adventure TV Series and Best TV Series. It also prevailed in the 2007 Genesis Awards for Outstanding Children's Programming. Last but not the least, the show garnered awards at the 33rd and 34th Annual Annie Awards for categories like Storyboarding in an Animated Television Production, Character Animation in a Television Production and Directing in an Animated Television Production.
This year,
Avatar is up against big contenders like
Ed, Edd and Eddy, which has been nominated for Favorite Cartoon in 2005,
The Simpsons, which already won 23 Primetime Emmy Awards, and five-time Favorite Cartoon,
SpongeBob SquarePants.
Set in an Asian-influenced world of martial arts and elemental manipulation,
Avatar is an animated series that follows the adventures of
Aang, and his friends in a quest to save the world from the ruthless Fire Nation.
