Australia, Baz Luhrmann’s latest epic opus, held its worldwide premiere in Sydney, after having to endure doubts about whether it will be finished on time. It might be, as things unfurl, one of the last films that
Nicole Kidman will work in. In a press conference after the premiere, the Oscar-winning actress hinted at wanting to do other things.
“In terms of my future as an actor and stuff, I don’t know,” she said. “I am in a place in my life where ... I’ve had some great opportunities and I may just choose to have some more children. I’ve no idea what is in my future, but I am very at peace with where I want to be. There are many things I want to do besides act.”
Kidman has one daughter with country singer Keith Urban, four-month-old Sunday Rose. She also has two adopted children from her first marriage, with
Tom Cruise.
In the press conference, she also acknowledged her latest films’ failures at the box office, as opposed to her other films such as
The Hours and
Moulin Rouge. “[That’s] my body of work,” she said. “I am not going to apologize for it. I have kind of unusual taste, and sometimes it’s mainstream and a lot of times it’s not.”
