Following the departure of
Grayson McCouch as Dusty Donavan on
As the World Turns, another soap vet is expected to leave Oakdale and he comes in the form of
Scott Bryce.
Best known for originally playing Craig Montgomery, Bryce joined the cast of
As the World Turns in 1982 and continued portraying the role until 1987. He made several short-term returns over the years until he officially left the long-running soap in 1994. Hunter Block assumed the role in 2000 until 2005, before Jeffrey Meek took over the character in 2006. Bryce came back in 2007, but is now slated to leave the show less than a year after being rehired.
"I love and respect the cast and crew of
As the World Turns and hope the
World continues to turn for years to come," Bryce said in a statement.
While Bryce is leaving his nefarious character, he admits that there is much to ponder on with regard to Craig's misdeeds, especially with the show's present storyline.
"It was tough to play, because I had to play the ambivalence of him and not the monstrosity," Bryce told
Soap Opera Digest of the awful twist of Craig slipping Meg a miscarriage drug. "What was driving him insane was not so much that she was pregnant by somebody else — which would drive any man insane — but that it was Paul, his arch-enemy."
Shedding more light to his character, Bryce explains that the problem with Craig is that he isn't aware that he's a bad person “so he gets obsessive-compulsive and it's like a freight train.” Although he wants to change and do the right thing, Craig has very little left to look forward to when his marriage is over, and despite having a company, which is now being threatened, he keeps committing the same mistakes over and over again.
"There's nothing more important to him [than his children], and yet that's his tragedy," Bryce said. "If it becomes important to him, it becomes all important to him; he's all focused and obsessive. He doesn't see that the love that he's giving isn't love, it's control. He doesn't understand, but he's trying so hard."
A final airdate is not yet available for Bryce.
