The CW has made many fans very happy today with three early renewals for the 2013-2014 TV season. Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries and Arrow were all renewed for new seasons.

The news comes as little surprise as these are the network's three highest-rated shows. They also have plenty of fan support. Still, getting renewed this early, especially for the aging Supernatural, is a huge sign of confidence from the network.

Supernatural was picked up for season 9, an impressive run for a show with only two stars. This season the show was moved to Wednesday nights, escaping the Friday night death slot and getting a nice boost from its powerful lead-in, Arrow, scoring its highest ratings in more than two years.

Arrow's renewal for a second season makes it the first freshman drama from this year to officially get a sophomore season. It's no surprise as the show quickly became the network's most-watched series.

Finally, The Vampire Diaries, which has become the network's signature show, was picked up for season 5. The renewal isn't a surprise, but it does mean that, early next year, the show will reach the 100-episode milestone.

The early renewals were all no-brainers, but now the CW will have to make harder decisions. Is freshman drama Beauty and the Beast a worthwhile investment in the future? If definitely has a devoted fanbase who helped it win a People's Choice Award for Favorite New Drama (toppling Elementary, Nashville, Revolution and Arrow), but the ratings aren't exactly stellar?

Is Nikita doing well enough on Friday nights to keep living? Can the new 90210 run for as long as the original (that's 10 seasons)? Will Hart of Dixie be pronounced dead? Do new mid-season shows The Carries Diaries and Cult have what it takes to survive? Those decisions will all be made later this spring.
