Get ready for a lot more of Malcolm Merlyn on Arrow. On Thursday star Stephen Amell tweeted some exciting news to his fans, namely that the show is getting a new series regular: John Barrowman.

Barrowman has been a guest star throughout the first two seasons as the villainous Malcolm Merlyn, aka the Dark Archer. He was Oliver Queen's primary nemesis in season 1 and appeared in four episodes of season 2 with the bombshell revelation that he is Thea Queen's biological father.

Arrow season 2 ended with Merlyn returning to Starling City for his daughter, and Thea deciding to leave with him in a limo after learning that her boyfriend Roy lied to her yet again.

The promotion of Barrowman to series regular will help fill some gaps in the cast following the death of Susanna Thompson's Moira Queen and the likely possibility that Manu Bennett's Slade Wilson won't stick around as a series regular given his incarcerated state at the end of season 2.

It also means that Thea and Malcolm's daddy/daughter adventures will probably play a big role in Arrow season 3. Whatever he has in store for her probably won't be good.

Barrowman is best known for playing Captain Jack Harkness on Doctor Who and Torchwood. He also appeared on ABC's Desperate Housewives.

Arrow will return for season 3 Wednesdays at 8pm in the fall on the CW.
