FOX's
hit series
Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?, which premieres with a new season tonight, has now been made into a new computer game courtesy of THQ, Inc.
The game, which THQ launched on August 28, features authentic commentary from show host
Jeff Foxworthy (
The Jeff Foxworthy Show, Reno 911!) and delivers all of the classmate peer pressure and wisecracks that viewers have come to love.
Players of the
Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader? game will answer up to 11 questions to win a virtual cash prize worth one million dollars. The game has more than 3,000 questions and 28 grade school subjects. As seen on the show, players can enlist the help of one of their five classmates by using the “Peek” and “Copy” cheats. If a player chooses to “Peek” into what his classmate has written down, he must answer the question and may not drop out. If a player opts to “Copy” off his classmate, he must go along with the classmate's answer without the benefit of knowing exactly what was written down.
The game also has a “Save” feature, wherein players who answer incorrectly are saved by a classmate's correct response to the same question.
However, by the time the players reach the million dollar question, they must go through the challenge alone. If players wish to drop out of the game, they can admit defeat by saying, “I am NOT Smarter than a 5th Grader!”
Published by THQ's Valusoft division,
Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader? is rated E for everyone and is currently available for Windows PC. It can also be played on online gaming portals. The game retails for $19.99.
This fall, THQ will introduce the Nintendo DS™ version of the game, while versions for the Sony Playstation®2 computer entertainment system and Nintendo's Wii™ home video system is set to be released next year.
Meanwhile, the new season of
Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader? premieres tonight with a special two-hour episode.
