Last week, down at the FOX Fall press junket, I had the distinct pleasure of interviewing the new crop of 5th graders from FOX's
Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader. Since last year's fifth graders have now moved on to sixth grade, FOX needed a new batch of young minds to humiliate grown-ups and serve as a clear example that you get dumber as you get older. The fifth graders seemed fairly ecstatic to be making the press rounds and were certainly the most enthusiastic interview subjects I talked to during my time in Los Angeles. The five students are Nathan, Mackenzie, Sierra, Cody and Olivia.
Below you will find the full mp3 audio of the raucous interview.
The first thing that became apparent during our interview with these kids was how well-spoken and engaging they are. It was almost a little creepy, to be honest. They were like a bunch of Dakota Fannings. That being said, they were great, and I can't ever remember having more fun doing an interview.
We discussed the kids' favorite subjects in school, the upcoming celebrity episodes of Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader, and what each kid wants to be when they grow up. The most shocking answer came from one of the girls, who admitted that she'd like to be a coroner when she grows up. I've never heard a little kid say that before. That's what CSI has done to the youth of today, it seems.
At the end of the interview, I was subjected to some questions from the kids. I got the first few correct, but missed two. You'll have to listen to see which ones, but I would argue that one of the questions was unfair, while the other was just my ignorance in regard to classical guitars.
