Apart from
Buffy the Vampire Slayer, James Marsters was known for his appearance on the spin-off
Angel. He continued to play the role of Spike, the irreverent vampire turned incorporeal being, when he returned in the fifth season of the series. After his death during Buffy’s final season, he was resurrected by an amulet and battled enemies such as “The Reaper” and psychotic slayer Dana. Later, he became some sort of a rival to Angel, akin to a hero before being corrupted by the system of Wolfram & Hart. Notable for his lust for violence, he was considered as a paradox amongst vampires on the show, often contradicting vampire principles and embracing various aspects of humanity such as love and loyalty.
After
Angel, Marsters guest starred on the show
The Mountain as Ted Tunney, and had a recurring role as Professor Milton Fine on eight episodes of
Smallville. He worked in the film
Cool Money, a gangster film that included John Cassini, Larry Manetti, Wayne Robson and Robin Brule. He was also cast as Jack in the movie
Shadow Puppets, a thriller film about eight strangers with no memories who find themselves trapped in a forsaken facility. Other cast members included Jolene Blalock, Tony Todd, Marc Winnick, Natasha Alam, Jennie Ford, and Richard Whiten among others.
Marsters has already completed working on the animated film
Superman: Doomsday, adapted from the DC Comics plot of
The Death of Superman. Slated for release on September 18, 2007, he serves as the voice of Lex Luthor, along with other actors like Adam Baldwin, who plays the role of Clark Kent, also known as Superman, and
Anne Heche as the voice of Lois Lane. Next, he stars as John McCarthy in the film
P.S., I Love You, a comedy drama about a young widow and her discovery of 10 messages left by her late husband to help her move on with her new life. Directed by Richard LaGravenese, the film is scheduled for release on December 21, 2007.
