Biography

Born Alexander Jenkins in South Bronx, J. Alexander initially dreamed of becoming an accountant. However, after realizing that the job was too confining and after meeting the then-president of Elite Model Management Monique Pillard, he decided that he belonged to the fashion industry. Impressed with his style, Pillard then singed him to her agency and sent him to Toyko, where he graced the runway for Jean Paul Gaultier. He also met Tyra Banks at a runway show, and he began to give her walking lessons, marking a start of a long lasting professional relationship.

J. Alexander then began coaching models, establishing himself as the preferred contact for casting and coaching runway models for popular designers such as Valentino, Galliano, Bill Blass, Alexander McQueen, Chanel and Nina Ricci since 1991.

Alexander's unique work ethics include a passion for modelettes, and the ability to easily improve elegance and movement on the runway. Backed with his outlandish style, he is now on the way to becoming one of the world's most popular fashionista.

J. Alexander also goes by the name “Miss J,” which was the name Cycle 1 contestant Robin Manning accidentally called him, because she confused him with Jay Manuel. He was also called “Miss J” because of his flamboyant clothing which includes the skirts and heels he wears during walking training.

J. Alexander serves as a judge and runway coach on America's Next Top Model, hosted by Tyra Banks.

It’s about a good personality and character, and having a love for what you do. I just love being on the catwalk and wearing great things, and looking wonderful and feeling fabulous. And having a little bit of confidence is very important. Good legs help, of course.
