Exclusive Interview: Samantha Francis, 2nd Eliminated Model on America's Next Top Model, Cycle 8 (Part 2)
You seemed to handle your elimination with grace and a good spirit. What were your thoughts when Tyra announced you would be going home?
Oh goodness. It was definitely a shock. The way that she was talking before, saying how I take great photos and my face translates to film very well. And then she says something about Natasha, like how her face…she’s beautiful in person but they didn’t really see it in her photos…it made me think I had a slight hope that I was staying and then she pulled the picture and it was Natasha. But the worse part was when she said, “We see beauty on the inside of her, and we don’t see it on the inside of me.” That really hurt.
Did you feel like you had the opportunity to make friends in the house?
Yeah, actually I did. It didn’t show me of course talking to any of the girls, which I did. Actually, I got very close with Renee and very close with Brittany and was really good friends with Jael, and actually roomed with Sarah. So it was like, they just didn’t show that for some reason, I guess they were…I don’t really know why. But I did have a great opportunity to become really great friends with the girls there and I hope to stay in contact with them after all of this is over.
Are you rooting for anyone in particular?
(Laughs) Either Renee or Brittany. Brittany is very down to earth, very caring and giving, and she’s just a great friend and reminds me of the friends I have back home, so it was kind of like a comfort to be friends with her on the show. And Renee was…Renee was really nice to me. The way they edited her in the two episodes I’ve seen, kind of portrays her as being kind of mean I’m guessing, kind of back-stabbing in a way, but she definitely wasn’t. She was a great friend and I think she’s in it for the right reasons…as far as she has a child and a step-son and a husband that she has to take care of and support, and I think that if this is the career she wants to do, then she can definitely do it and I hope she wins and goes on and does great things.
What are you plans for modeling now that you’re off the show?
I’m definitely going to pursue it. I’m going to try to meet with some agents and agencies and just try to get on somewhere and then start working as soon as I can.
Do you have any final thoughts about last night or the show in general?
It was a great experience and I would definitely do it again. It got my foot in the door of this industry and I’ve learned so much the short while I was there. It definitely prepared me for things that I’m going to be experiencing in my career, so I’m very grateful for the opportunity and I’ve learned so much, and all of the girls…it was just great.
