Jenah Doucette might not have had the sort of uncomplicated commercial appeal that Cover Girl would gravitate towards, but sometimes that makes for a more interesting personal story. She admitted in the final episode that she had a challenging upbringing, but it might have also just been this background that gave her the depth to take some of the best photos this season.
She’s elaborated a little more on her experience on the show and what it’s meant for her life since taping wrapped.
It turns out she didn’t even tell her own sisters that she was joining America’s Next Top Model, saying instead when she left shortly before her graduation that she was going to hike the Appalachian Trail.
Modeling and her family are apparently a little bit of a fraught topic for Jenah. She admits, “I didn’t ever think I’d model…My mom did some modeling in her past, so that deterred me for a while. I was rebellious.”
But after a while, she seemed to realize this could be an actual career path for her. “Then, as I would take pictures with photographers she knew, who were training or shooting for fun, they always said, ‘You should do this.'”
She said she wound up watching the final show with friends and not her family though, saying, “My mom was mad at me for not watching it with her, but she had a lot of people over that I didn’t know, and besides, it was not exactly like we’d all be celebrating.”
Nevertheless, she is still feeling positive about the America’s Next Top Model experience, saying, “I learned a lot about myself and a lot about fashion and modeling, and that’s awesome.”
She says she’s been recognized out and about, but in her hometown of Farmington, CT, she’s actually not as much of a big deal as you might expect. She thinks she know why, though, saying, “50 Cent lives in our town. So I don’t think it’s that big a deal that I’m here.”
